All dogs need handling differently whilst training them, and training a German Shepherd is considered to be the toughest challenge. The process needed can be learned quite easily and a dog can be very self satisfying.

All dogs are said to be loyal, but the German Shepherd is also loving and very clever. If you are lucky enough to have a well trained one as a pet, you don’t need me to tell you what brilliant pets they make.

A well trained dog always makes a better pet than an untrained animal, and much easier to control. Here are a few suggestions to get to your German Shepherd pup to that stage.

The first thing to remember about this breed is that they will always try and hunt for the alpha dog. They were they originally used to herd sheep and this instinct dates from then.

Being a strong figure of authority to a little puppy may seem hard, but for the training to succeed you need to take on the alpha role. You puppy needs to know who’s boss.

At the same time, only remonstrate them through tone of voice, never hit or smack your puppy. These dogs are extremely sensitive creatures and physical abuse can leave them mentally scarred for life.

Be firm and strong and don’t lose your temper when your puppy is naughty, they all are and you should know that. They will soon learn who is boss if you are firm but fair, a change in your tone of voice will soon be all that your dog needs to know he has gone too far.

All dogs love to be praised, and your German Shepherd will soon know the tones of voice for doing well and doing wrong. Praise is an essential part of training; they will be even keener to please you if they know they will be rewarded in this way. This builds a great rapport between you and your dog.

I was surprised to learn that about one in every 3 people spell the word German Shepherd mistakenly, calling them German Shepards instead. I am amazed that this word is so normally misspelled, & I am even more amazed to learn that I write it this way for so many of my life.

I loathe spelling words wrong & I consistently aim to avoid it. I am always careful to make certain that I’m precise with my spelling, although like just about any person, occasionally I just slip up. The good thing is that I’m going to give you an effortless way to bear in mind how to properly spell this breed of dog the right way.

Follow my little method here and you’ll always remember that it is not German Shepards, rather shepherds.

Think back to why this kind of dog was created & maybe you’ll already figure it out. The German Shepherd was bred as a labor dog, and it was just at the turn of the century that this breed came to life.

People in Germany desired a canine to help herd sheep. Remember the words herd & sheep this time, & then reverse them. You do not think of the German Shepards (I’m kidding) presently as sheep herding canines, as they are usually used by police to fight crime, in airports to find drugs, & in other places that depend on the dog’s great olfactory senses.

This, though, is why they happened to be bred, and remembering this will make it a lot easier to spell the word correctly.

As long as you attempt to keep this in mind any time you write or type out the word, I suppose you will get it correctly from here. Don’t feel too badly about it because 1 in 3 people do write it mistakenly.

I hope this has been informative. Here’s to some spelling triumphs later in life when it comes to this fantastic kind of canine.

Now that you realize it’s not German Shepards spelled wrong, you’ll need to learn some German Shepherd training tips at my blog.

Most dog owners do not understand that what appears to be cute biting from a puppy is actually not a good or desirable thing. If a puppy is encouraged to bite, it will become a dog that bites. When a dog matures, the ‘cute’ biting is not so appealing.

In the animal world if the puppy were kept with its mother and siblings it would usually learn that biting is not acceptable by about eight weeks of age. When a puppy bites other puppies or its mother it would be bitten back or disciplined and it would then learn not to bite. This doesn’t always get to happen by the time the puppies are adopted or find homes.

In bringing a young puppy home, you find that it doesn’t know not to nip. Quick action should be taken to curb this unwanted behavior.

In dealing with a biting puppy it is essential to remember that hitting is not an acceptable way to react, even if it hurts. Your puppy could become scared if hit and that can affect your relationship. A scared puppy can become an aggressive, anxious, or fearful dog.

A biting puppy needs to be encouraged for good behavior when it is not biting. The biting should be discouraged. Games where the puppy thinks that it is good to nip and use its teeth should be discouraged. When the puppy learns that it is praised and receives treats for other behaviors, the biting behavior should diminish.

When dealing with a puppy that nips it is essential to remain consistent. Everyone must treat the behavior as bad and only encourage good things to keep the puppy from becoming confused.

Classes are recommended for puppies to teach them to stop biting and other great things as well. In a puppy class the nipping behavior is ended in a similar manner that the puppy’s mother would have used. Having the puppy learn how to behave around other dogs is another important part of these classes. Socializing your puppy can make things much easier.

Your puppy learning not to bite is the most important thing you can teach it. By about ten weeks of age the puppy should understand from you that it is not allowed to nip. A puppy that does not bite is more enjoyable to be around. This also sets the foundation for an enjoyable relationship together.

Anyone that has ever had a cat knows that a cat uses its claws in many of the things it does during the day. From defending themselves to playing, a cat’s claws are often in use. A cat’s claws are also used for climbing and such mundane things as traction and turning.

A cat scratches with its front paws to strengthen the muscles, remove the old layers off the nails, and off course to sharpen its claws. An indoor cat will use furniture or whatever is available. A cat that goes outdoors will often use a tree.

An indoor cat can be redirected from inappropriate items to things that it should scratch on, such as a cat tree. Scratching posts and pads are available and are usually posts or poles covered with carpet. It is possible to make you own if you are handy with lumber and carpet and save money.

To get a cat to scratch in the places you want it to, catnip can be very useful. Take some catnip and rub it where you want the scratching. This works better when a cat is young, but should be a good start to appropriate scratching either way.

An older cat that has already developed its habits is more likely to scratch your furniture. When you catch the cat in the act, take it to the appropriate areas to scratch and gently push its paws against the area to scratch. Reward appropriate behavior with praise and treats if you like. Patience at this point is very important.

There are some very useful products available to help you teach your cat where to scratch and what areas to leave alone. You can protect your furniture and use deterrents as well. Cats do not usually like foil, sticky objects, or poky things. Using citronella can help too and many cats do not like citrus fragrance. Place toys and other distractions in good areas to encourage the right behavior.

A cat with trimmed nails is not as destructive. You can trim them yourself or take the cat to the groomer or veterinarian to have it done. If trimming at home, remain calm but quick and do not cut too far.

Many people think that it is not possible to train a cat, but if you have enough patience and stick to it you can get results. You can train your cat not to scratch your furniture.

Dogs make a wonderful edition to any family, but must learn appropriate behaviors and commands to fit well. A dog does not learn like people do. This is important to realize when training the dog. Lessons need to be done in the right manner and learning is not going to be complete after just one session.

Having a well behaved dog is a pleasure and reflects well on the owner. A dog that misbehaves and causes problems is not nearly as welcome. Dog training is not a simple thing but actually should be researched to be done correctly. Making the dog fear you can be destructive to it’s training and bring negative results. Training requires dedication, and passion.

Having a dog know how to behave around other dogs is important. While it is great to have the dog know how to behave around people, there are times when you might find yourself in the situation where there are other dogs. If trained for this, the dog will know what is expected.

Today we have so many ways to get information. It is easy to learn on the Internet, from a book, or even from programs on the television. Make use of all the information available to be able to train your dog well.

With all of the training tips that are available it can be an easy process to train your puppy. When a dog is younger it is easier to train.

Dogs learn better from positive reinforcement. When your dog does something well, reward with praise and patting. A treat can also be an effective tool to help the dog remember the desired behavior in the future. Focusing on the negative is not beneficial and can make for unpleasant training sessions. Try to look past some of the negative behaviors.

Showing your anger or frustration during a training session can confuse the dog and make it afraid. When a dog is terrified it ceases to learn as well as when it is calm. Keep calm and cool when training your dog. When you are calm your dog can be calm. A dog that is not afraid can understand what it is being taught much better.

For most people, a dog is part of the family. After being trained the right way, your dog will fit well into your family. Let your dog know that you appreciate him or her and that you are pleased with good behavior. Your dog will want to please you.

Made the decision to get a dog for a pet? Well, that is one smart decision and you will be so glad that you made it – congratulations. A dog makes such an awesome companion and truly a fantastic pet.

Perhaps you have children living in your house; having a dog there while they are growing up is a good thing. There have been a lot of studies done which have shown that when children are raised in a house where there is a dog, there are some benefits to that.

Trying to decide which dog breed to get can be hard, so the following three choices might help you with that decision. Every one of them gets along with kids nicely.

The first breed is called a Viszla and has origins in Austria. It is so beautiful to look at because of the reddish brown coat it has. These dogs are medium sized and skinny, but they are really quick.

The most important thing is the fact that they are extraordinarily loving around children. They thrive on getting lots of exercise, so if you have a nice big yard, that would be ideal for them. Their well being depends on whether or not they get that exercise regularly.

The second breed that you could give some thought to is the Golden Doodle, which is a mix of the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. It is one of the newer breeds and continues to get more and more popular. This dog has many good qualities also.

To begin with, they really are very smart dogs that come across as quite gentle and loving, not to mention how well they get along with kids. The fact that they will not shed goes a long way towards how easy they are to manage. These dogs just love to play fetch, so having a big area outside for them would be best.

The third breed is the Dog de Bordeaux, originally called the French Mastiff. It is a breed that has French origins.

Except for the fact that it is brownish-red with blue-grey eyes and is more muscular, this breed does resemble a bulldog. These dogs are quite content to be in the house, so a yard is not required, and they are friendly beautiful animals.

If you should happen to come across a mouse in your house, be assured that you are not the only person who has had this same problem. When you reside in an apartment or in an area where this is a lot of woods, this could occur more often.

Spotting a mouse in different areas of your home does not mean that you have to be worried about it. Once you have perused through the following tips for dealing with them, everything will be back to normal in no time at all.

First and foremost – mice are not going to attack you. They are so much more scared of you than you might be of them. So, do not panic.

It’s also important to have some insight into the way they operate. Since their vision is very weak, they essentially rely on their great sense of smell and their strong hearing in order to move around.

Should a mouse hear you, it will scurry away extremely fast to avoid you. On the contrary, if you stay quiet, they will not even be aware that you are there.

Getting back to the smell thing, they’re obviously attracted to food. Can you really fault them for it? Without access to food, they won’t be able to live.

They can survive on just a little bit of crumbs, unfortunately, and whatever might be on your floor would be their meal. Your best bet is to always keep your floors clean and free from crumbs.

I would also strongly recommend keeping the smell of food to an absolute minimum too. Whether it’s coming from your garbage or your kitchen because of something you’ve left out, even if they can’t get to it they’ll still hang around in search of that food.

There might even be small openings throughout your home or apartment where mice could be getting in. It is so important to completely seal off those areas; get in touch with a professional who can help you figure out just where these openings are located.

What happens when a mother dog can’t care for her pups, died during childbirth, or can’t produce enough milk for them all? Often these puppies be become orphaned and are picked up by humane organizations.

If you are willing to work hard caring for a puppy, these new orphans can fill your heart with warmth. Be sure to begin with a visit to the vet so that he can get them started on all the right shots and feeding schedule.

It will be important to establish a regular schedule right away. Feedings, trips outside, sleeping, and training can be time-consuming but a regular schedule will pay off later.

Orphan puppies will not have started out with mother’s milk, so it will be especially important to listen to the vet’s advice on nutrition. Your new puppy will need to be nurtured and socialized to grow into a healthy adult dog.

Do you still think you have the time for a new puppy? If so, great! As long as you are considering all of the needs involved, you’ll make the best decision.

An orphaned puppy will need to start out with either bottle feeding or tube feeding. Bottle feeding is usually the best option. Tubes can be risky to the puppy, as the tube can move into the lungs and cause choking. When bottle feeding, avoid choking by feeding the pup while it is on its’ belly.

Remember not to give your puppy cow milk or goat milk. They must have a special formula, such as Esbilac or Puppylac. Also, do not ever give your puppy egg whites. Raw egg whites contain an enzyme that causes a deficiency of biotin in puppies. Honey must also be avoided as it is fatal to puppies.

For the first week, your new puppy will need between 60-69 calories per pound each day. You can increase this by 10 calories per pound each week, so that when the puppy is in week four he is consuming between 90 and 100 calories per pound.
