Cats are so commonplace that we scarcely look at what they do and why they do it, but cat behaviour is quite an interesting topic really, particularly for cat owners and animal lovers.

Cat behaviour is usually taken to mean that of domestic cats, although they do share some characteristics with their larger wild relatives.

A cat’s behaviour largely depends on whether it is a solitary cat or one of several in a household. Cats are usually solitary animals only coming together to mate, although they will usually co-exist with other cats in a house, particularly if they met when they were young or those that were introduced were young.

You may get problems of territorialism if you attempt to introduce an older cat into a house, where another cat has been living for a time. This is similar to large cats, which have their hunting ground that they patrol and delineate with urine and faeces every day. Male cats sometimes do this at home, much to the annoyance of their owners.

Rubbing has a similar meaning. A cat rubs with scent glands on its face to mark something as its own, especially territory, which is all cats really care about except food.

Kneading or knitting is another common trait in household cats, although it is not really well understood.

One theory goes that domestic cats stay juveniles, never really growing up, so kneading is reminiscent of kneading its mother’s teats to encourage the flow milk. Others say that it is reminiscent of flattening grass to make a bed, but this does not seem to explain the ecstasy that cats seem to get from kneading.

We like to hear our cats purr because we see it as a sign of joy, but is it? Well, it almost certainly is, but it probably comes from the fact that cats are born blind and, like most infants, fairly stupid, so the sound of mum purring almost certainly attracts the kittens to her for a feed. The ‘memory’ of this happy event almost certainly triggers purring in adult cats.

When a cat arches its back, it is probably signalling to its assailant that it is bigger than they think it is. It is also an attack posture. With its back arched, a cat can rear up in order to claw a taller adversary, but it can also jump or run, whichever action is apposite. The hissing goes with arching to deter the antagonist.

Cats do not have a wide vocal range and, being nocturnal hunters, they have developed a sort of ‘eye language’. For example, if a cat is happy, it’s eyes dilate – a bit like when we look at their loved ones.

However, it also occurs in cats while they are hunting, which might mean either that they enjoy that activity or that they have to get as much light as possible to see by.

All dogs need handling differently whilst training them, and training a German Shepherd is considered to be the toughest challenge. The process needed can be learned quite easily and a dog can be very self satisfying.

All dogs are said to be loyal, but the German Shepherd is also loving and very clever. If you are lucky enough to have a well trained one as a pet, you don’t need me to tell you what brilliant pets they make.

A well trained dog always makes a better pet than an untrained animal, and much easier to control. Here are a few suggestions to get to your German Shepherd pup to that stage.

The first thing to remember about this breed is that they will always try and hunt for the alpha dog. They were they originally used to herd sheep and this instinct dates from then.

Being a strong figure of authority to a little puppy may seem hard, but for the training to succeed you need to take on the alpha role. You puppy needs to know who’s boss.

At the same time, only remonstrate them through tone of voice, never hit or smack your puppy. These dogs are extremely sensitive creatures and physical abuse can leave them mentally scarred for life.

Be firm and strong and don’t lose your temper when your puppy is naughty, they all are and you should know that. They will soon learn who is boss if you are firm but fair, a change in your tone of voice will soon be all that your dog needs to know he has gone too far.

All dogs love to be praised, and your German Shepherd will soon know the tones of voice for doing well and doing wrong. Praise is an essential part of training; they will be even keener to please you if they know they will be rewarded in this way. This builds a great rapport between you and your dog.

I was surprised to learn that about one in every 3 people spell the word German Shepherd mistakenly, calling them German Shepards instead. I am amazed that this word is so normally misspelled, & I am even more amazed to learn that I write it this way for so many of my life.

I loathe spelling words wrong & I consistently aim to avoid it. I am always careful to make certain that I’m precise with my spelling, although like just about any person, occasionally I just slip up. The good thing is that I’m going to give you an effortless way to bear in mind how to properly spell this breed of dog the right way.

Follow my little method here and you’ll always remember that it is not German Shepards, rather shepherds.

Think back to why this kind of dog was created & maybe you’ll already figure it out. The German Shepherd was bred as a labor dog, and it was just at the turn of the century that this breed came to life.

People in Germany desired a canine to help herd sheep. Remember the words herd & sheep this time, & then reverse them. You do not think of the German Shepards (I’m kidding) presently as sheep herding canines, as they are usually used by police to fight crime, in airports to find drugs, & in other places that depend on the dog’s great olfactory senses.

This, though, is why they happened to be bred, and remembering this will make it a lot easier to spell the word correctly.

As long as you attempt to keep this in mind any time you write or type out the word, I suppose you will get it correctly from here. Don’t feel too badly about it because 1 in 3 people do write it mistakenly.

I hope this has been informative. Here’s to some spelling triumphs later in life when it comes to this fantastic kind of canine.

Now that you realize it’s not German Shepards spelled wrong, you’ll need to learn some German Shepherd training tips at my blog.

Getting your dog to socialize with others is just as important as house training and general K9 training is from day one. Many people seem to overlook this fact, assuming that it will come naturally with the territory as their pet experiences life on his or her own. This isn’t the case, and it’s really important to know the best tips and tactics involved with helping your new pet to become a more sociable animal as they mature into an adult dog.

You may be asking what exactly does socializing for a dog actually mean. This can mean a number of things really. Below you will find some ideas that can be used for socializing your puppy:

For example, take your dog to a park where people will be and maybe others dogs. He needs to get used the different sounds and personalities of others.

A dog park would be a great start for your dog. He can get used to being around other dogs and learn how to behave around them.

The way to break your dog in so that he is comfortable with visitors and other people than yourself, allow him to be petted by them. He will become more comfortable with this after a little time.

Allow your dog to meet friends and family who visit more regularly so that he doesn’t bark at them every time they stop by.

He needs to be around other dogs as much as possible so that he is more comfortable but this always gets him to become more socialized. The more he’s able to do this from a young age, the more friendly he or she will be around both other animals, and human beings young and old.

Begin the puppy training right away because it is key to a happy and healthy dog. This training is just as important as eating, exercising and love and attention.

If you need advice for dog training, you get this from books, other dog owners or K9 training school. Consistency is key with training your pet and be sure to add a little socializing in there as well.

In addition to animal training, the author also frequently contributes articles about faux fur coat and granite sealant.

Ringworm is fairly common in cats, particularly those that are not groomed or looked after well enough. However, even the most cared-for cats can get ringworm because it is so infectious.

However, ringworm is not caused by a worm. Sorry, for telling you how to suck eggs, if you already knew that, but a lot of owners do not.

Ringworm is really a fungus known as dermatophytosis and is highly infectious for most animals including humans. Cats frequently pass it on to each other while rubbing and pass it onto humans during grooming or stroking.

Not only that, but once you have the infection on your hands, you might get ringworm on your body wherever you touch yourself or you may pass it onto someone else, a different cat or your dog.

If you notice the tell-tale catherine-wheel shaped mark on your cat, you should take it to the vet instantly for treatment.

Likewise, if you or your kids pick up the infection, you should see a GP or dermatologist. You should see an improvement in a few days and complete recovery within a week or so, although treatment may go on for a fortnight to make sure complete recovery.

Occasionally, you may not see the ring-like mark, but if your cat or child is itching or scratching in one spot and there are no fleas, assume ringworm. Being a fungus, spores will drop off the host all over the house and might even get blown around in the aircon system. This could easily infect each living thing in the house, so it is horrible.

Therefore, if you think that something is wrong, but you cannot explain it, suspect ringworm, be on the look out for the signs and treat it as soon as it reveals itself.

When you have your cat on your lap, check it for signs of ringworm. These are very often on the head, where it has nuzzled a cat.

Look around the eyes, the ears and on the paws for bald spots, the ring mark or just red, flakey dry skin. The cat may lick it or scratch the area frequently and there might be dandruff.

The first thing to do is don gloves and search the cat for fleas. If you do not see a large infestation of fleas, your cat probably has ringworm so get it to the vet as soon as possible.

In the meantime, isolate it from your children and do not touch the area, although it may already be too late.

The treatment for ringworm in cats is fairly simple. It normally involves washing your cat every other day and applying anti-fungal cream once or two times a day to the infected areas wearing rubber gloves.

Applying the cream is not a problem, but a large number of cats actually hate being washed, so this could be a problem. If your cat hates water, place it in a pillow case and fasten it at its throat with an old flea collar. This should stop the cat from clawing you and running away.

A comparable treatment must be undergone by each member of the family, but you will just exchange your regular soap and shampoo for an anti-fungal one for a fortnight.

Should a person buy pet medicine online or from a veterinarian? This is the most common question people ask themselves when purchasing the drugs. This is dependent on the situation at hand in terms of urgency and need. If you pet is in dire need of the medication, it makes no sense if purchase online and wait until the med is delivered. In such cases, always opt for direct medication from the veterinarian, the life of your pet comes first.

However, if the drugs are meant for frequent administration purposes such as heart worm, flea, tick eradication, costly joint supplements, long-term prescription and health products, you can opt for online purchase. This is because online purchase can save you money and also convenient considering that you do not need the drugs for emergency purposes.

When purchasing prescribed drugs, consult with the doctor so that you can be sure that the medicine is ideal for the diagnosis of the pet. Buying drugs without a prescription can be vital because it can affect the pet badly. It is always wise to consult with the vet first before you purchase any drugs and therefore online purchases should not replace visiting the veterinarian.

Due to the many pharmacies cropping up day by day that are just interested in making money out of frantic buyers, veterinarians are being skeptical of transferring prescription online because you might buy fake medicine which is harmful to your animal.

Considering that there are also credible online pet pharmacies and that online pharmacies have great discount, this should not stop you from purchasing your med online. All you need to do is get reputable online providers who adhere to pet medicine regulations and guidelines. This is the only way you can reassure your vet that the medication you are getting is of high quality.

When you get an honest online pharmacy it is best to let your veterinarian know that you will be making an online purchase. Convince him or her that the reason you are purchasing it online is for convenience and also saving up on money. Professionals that are concerned about your pet and the need for you to obtain inexpensive drugs will let you do that.

On occasions, some vets might lower their price to equate the online price so that they can retain you as their client and also service your needs. If this does not happen, request them to respond once an online pharmacy contacts them in search of prescription information. Let them know that their promptness when responding to the online pharmacy will be of much help in delivering the medicines in time.

Know that even though you have a right to your pet’s medical record access, you have no right to determine the type of prescription. Therefore, never insist on a prescription that is against the vets opinion, diagnosis or advice.

Dogs need to be kept healthy and one way of keeping your German Shepherd healthy is to train them. Training them makes them active and a lot healthier since they work hard. They are often better at keeping memory with what you are teaching them that any types of dogs.

This article will provide you information on how you can train your german Shepherd to become one of the members of your family. Not only will it provide sustainable information on why your dog will become a great companion, but it will also teach you to take good care of your dog.

Train your German Shepherd early on in life rather than wait for it to be fully grown and train it. This is because old dogs can never learn new tricks by training them. It will always subvert back to its animalistic ways.

Take your puppy to a dog club so it will not make a mess out of itself inside your home. We all know that dogs usually run around inside your home and bring chaos. By bringing them into a dog club, you will surely give it time to spend with the rest of the dogs as well as train it.

Dog clubs ultimately help your dog cope up with being alone in your home. It will also let them be aware that there are other dogs in your neighborhood as well.

Training your dog with grooming will bring a lot of peace into your mind. Gone are the days where you are scraping all the hair from your carpet and cleaning the droppings on the floor. Trained German Shepherds are very obedient.

But there will always come a time that your dog will go back to its own way, thus a handy vacuum cleaner should be near or within reach.

A trained dog is just like a long lost friend. You will surely be able to have a companion that is both alive and caring as you have with a friend.

The writer additionally frequently gives advice about things including german shepherd obedience training and dog liability insurance.

Even older horses have to be kept fairly lively, especially if they have always led an energetic life. Old horses that have been active are a bit like humans that are compelled to retire at 65 – they often get depressed.

Just as with us, the body may begin to show signs of wear and tear, but the mind still functions well and the old horse will miss its old colleagues – human and animal – and will miss being lively.

For these reasons, you ought to never simply abandon an old horse in a field thinking that you are doing it a favour by not making it toil. Slacken off the work, if you like. Ride it a little less frequently, if you think it is a good thing, but never only leave it alone ‘to enjoy its retirement’. It will not comprehend what you are doing.

It is fairly possible that the older horse will suffer from arthritis. Standing in a field all day is not a remedy for arthritis, but mild exercise can help relieve the indications of arthritis. There is no necessity to push your horse hard, but you can walk him and even ride him a little, if he can bear your weight. Otherwise get a child to ride him for you.

Regular mild exercise will build up his muscles and strengthen his cartilages which will assuage the effects of arthritis. This will be good for the horse, but it will also be good for you as it will mean that you will require less help from the vet. It will also make him a more contented horse which will improve his digestion and general well-being.

If your horse has been abandonned to get on with his life alone for a while, take the recommendation that humans are given in the same circumstances. That is, have him checked over by the vet and get approval for your exercise programme from him. Then, have his shoes and hoofs checked so that he receives less shock from walking on tarmac. Massage some oil into his joints too, if the vet says it will help.

The new exercise regimen ought to start mildly, but might be increased gradually as your horse gets fitter. If you notice that your horse is still suffering, try massage. While massaging your horse’s joints, pick up a leg and lightly bend and straighten it around ten times per joint.

Try to do this three or four times a day until you see results and then walking will almost certainly obviate the need for further massage, unless you enjoy doing it too. This will ease his joints which have probably become stiff through paucity of use.

You can try neck stretches too. This is best done by offering treats, say, across a fence. Make your horse reach for the treat – first up high and then down low. Give carrots rather than sweets because of your horse’s elderly teeth.

Remember that older ‘individuals’ have different dietary needs to younger individuals and the same is true of horses.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on a variety of topics, but is currently concerned with the distemper in horses.

Planning to get home a pupp?. Well don’t worry about fining a trainer for him in your neighbourhood, for the trainer can be you. Yes we mean that you can train your puppy easily by following the guide book. We are referring to Daniel Steven’s latest book “SitStayFetch” . When he is considered to be one of the world’s best authorities on training techniques, you know you have the best training guide with you.

This book happens to be the most popular book on dog training as on date. It has already sold over 200,000 copies already since the time it was first printed and the demand is growing everyday because the book not only explains the theory but gives you the practical demonstration of how the training is to be conducted.

The book talks in detail about how to deal with your dog’s behavior and teach him to stop biting, barking as well as getting aggressive. You will also find the way to stop your puppy from running away with socks and chewing things up and not obeying commands while crossing the road etc. You will also learn a lot about your puppy’s psyche and his fears which reflect in his behavior.

If you want your dog to be house broken, then you will be able to learn how to teach your dog not to go inside the house.

If you pay attention to go through the book, it doesn’t take you long to understand and train your dog with step by step instructions within six days. There is also a detailed section devoted to identifying more than 25 dog behavioral problems, symptoms along with video samples and how to deal with such problems.

You also get to watch a 30 minute video that covers case studies as well as step by step instructions on the training issues with your dog as well as clue on how to identify and solve behavioral problems of your dog.

The case studies are all real cases and examples are all from real life. You will be inspired when you see others like you having trained their dog and talking about their experience. The success speaks very well for the effectiveness of the program.

One more important aspect here is that you have direct access to the author, to seek his help, opinion and judgement on your training and on doubts as well as on how to solve practical problems. The author is easily reachable on email and he or his office will call back and answer you.

The Collie dog makes an exceptional sporting dog and can be trained to do the work of the Pointer and the Setter, together with that of the Water Spaniel and the Retriever. He can be trained to perform the work of other breeds too. He is smart at hunting, having an excellent nose, is a first-rate vermin-killer, and a most loyal guard dog and buddy.

Not much is known with confidence of the origin of the Collie, but his cunning and his outward looks would appear to indicate a relationship with the wild dog. Buffon was of point of view that he was the true dog of nature, the standard and model for the whole canine species.

He thought the Sheepdog superior in instinct and intelligence to all other breeds, and that, with a character which other breeds do not share. It is the only animal that is born completely trained for the assistance of man.

At the shows this kind of dog is invariably at the top of the group. It is thought to be the most tractable, and is certainly one of the most agile. The second most popular breed of this type is the smooth-coated variety, which is a very hard-working, useful dog, well adapted for hill work and normally very fleet of foot.

He is not so amiable in temper as the black and white, and is slow to make friends. There is not a more graceful and physically beautiful dog to be seen than the show Collie of the current period. Bred from the old working dog, he is now almost a distinct breed.

The skull should be flat, fairly wide between the ears, and gradually narrowing towards the eyes. There should just be a small depression at the bottom. The width of skull necessarily depends upon the joint length of skull and muzzle; and the whole must be considered in connection with the size of the animal. The cheeks should not be full or outstanding.

The muzzle ought to be of a decent length, tapering to the nose, and must not show weakness. Whatever the colour of the dog, the nose must be black. The teeth should be of a decent size, sound and level; very slight unevenness is allowed.

The mouth should be clean-cut and powerful. The eyes are a very important feature, giving expression to the dog; they should be of medium size, set somewhat obliquely, of almond shape and brown colour apart from in the case of merles, when the eyes are frequently (one or both) blue and white or china; expressing high intelligence, with a quick, alert appearance when they are listening.

The ears should be small and moderately wide at the base, located not too close together but on the top of the skull and not on the side of the head. When in repose they should be carried thrown back, but when on the alert brought forward and carried semi-erect, with tips somewhat drooping in the attitude of listening.

The neck should be muscular, powerful, of fair length, and somewhat arched. The body should be burly, with well sprung ribs, deep chest, fairly broad behind the shoulders, which should be sloped, loins very powerful..

The front legs must be straight and muscular, leaning neither in nor out at the elbows, with a fair amount of bone; the forearm somewhat plump, the pasterns showing flexibility without frailty. The hind-legs should be muscular at the thighs, clean and sinewy below the hocks, with well-bent stifles. The feet should be elliptical in shape, soles well padded, and the toes vaulted and close together.

Its general character is to be a lissom, active dog, his deep chest displaying lung power, his neck strength, his sloping shoulders and well bent hocks representing speed, and his expression of high intelligence. It should be a fair length in the leg, giving him more of a racy than a plodding appearance.

In a few words, a Collie should show endurance, activity, and intelligence, with free and deliberate actions. In height dogs should be 22 ins. to 24 ins. at the shoulders, bitches 20 ins. to 22 ins. The weight for dogs is 45 to 65 lbs., bitches 40 to 55 lbs. The smooth collie only differs from the rough in its coat, which ought to be hard, thick and very smooth.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on a number of subjects, but is currently involved with the canine distemper vaccination. If you want to kcurrently more, please visit our website at Distemper Vaccines
