2009 November 6

It is amazing how birds can almost eat anything, well, not everything, but most things. Even though they are very flexible in what they eat, you should still make sure they get the appropriate diet. Different birds have different diet requirements. Choices include seed and pelleted diet. Do they have a personal preference? Is your bird allergic to anything?

Some kind of foods help to strengthen your parrot. With many choices and selection on seeds and pellets, how can you find the best food for your feathered friend? Unlike the common misconception, birds do not require seeds in their diet.

Parrots should not always eat too many seeds and peanuts because they are in high fat content. Parrots should eat more pelleted food instead. Birds can eat a little bit of other things too. Don’t forget, fresh fruits also constitute an important part of the diet. Organic food bought from a store is also another option. Organic food is all natural and so you would be certain that your bird’s food would not be contaminated with anything. Birds have sensitive dietary stomach.

Eating excessive human food is not recommended because of the differences in stomach structure. Sweet potato is one food that you both would enjoy. However, feeding your bird just sweet potatoes would not be good. Some food you definitely don’t give your bird. By giving them chocolate and avocado you can actually kill your bird.

Feeding different kinds of birds with the same diet would not be good for the bird. Learn what works the best for the bird specifically. For instance, budgies and macaws would not be eating the same thing. It would be hard to feed a budgie a large broccoli. Always talk to the pet food experts to make sure you are getting the best diet. Finding more information would always help. If you end up feeding your pet something that would not work well over time, you would end up hurting the bird more than helping it.

You should also consider the location of where you feed your bird. Bird cages that have feeder bowls in the cage would work the best. Putting all kinds of food in the dish and let your bird go at it. It is recommended to have a bird cage that has a set of seed guards that can keep the mess within the cage.

Otherwise, birds tend to fling the food all over the place. It is interesting that birds like to throw food around but that is basically what they did in their natural habitat. As a result, getting a good bird cage with seed guards can help you keep your room from becoming a big mess.

The key now is that you know what you should get for your bird to eat. Your parrot or bird would now enjoy a very good and healthy diet from now on. Don’t forget that your bird lives a long life so make sure you do things right from the start. Having good bird cages or parrot cages with stainless steel feeder bowls would be ideal also because you don’t like to clean much.
